Gear Quiz from Tim [WT1IM] -- "The mystery fix for an HF tuning knob..."

GEAR QUIZ QUESTION from Tim [WT7IM]:

I bought a Yaesu FT-77 yesterday. 

Neat little "economy" HF rig. One little issue, though.

This (below) is apparently a common issue with this thing:

The "rubber" on the knob had deteriorated into a disgusting goo.  Fortunately, I have a ten year old who doesn't play with a bunch of his old toys any more:
